- Grants are restricted to Argentine citizens residing
in Argentina at the time of application. The Fulbright
Program will give priority to candidates who have
not held a Fulbright grant or who have not lived
in the U.S. for a long period of time.
- Awards are not open to Argentines who are currently
studying, researching or lecturing at U.S. universities.
- Candidates holding dual Argentine-U.S. citizenship
or U.S. permanent resident status are not eligible.
Grants are awarded on a highly competitive basis,
with particular stress placed on academic and professional
excellence, leadership potential, and willingness
to share ideas and experiences. All applicants must
have a university degree, professional experience,
and must provide evidence of proficiency in spoken
and written English, as required by the Commission.
On the first review stage, specialists in each field
and Commission staff rank applications. After a preliminary
selection, an ad hoc selection committee interviews
pre-selected candidates on the day and place specified
by the Commission. The interviews, which are a mandatory
step towards obtaining a Fulbright award, will be
conducted in English to assess the candidates' language
skills. Based on the recommendations of the selection
committee, the Commission Board of Directors selects
the finalists and submits their names for final approval
to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board
(FSB) in the United States. Fulbright Selection Committees’
decisions are final.
In accordance with U.S. immigration legislation,
all Fulbright grantees must receive an exchange visitor
(J-1) visa, which establishes that they must return
to Argentina upon completion of their academic project.
Fulbright grantees are not eligible for an immigrant
visa, for permanent residence, for a non-immigrant
visa as a temporary worker ("H" visa) or
trainee, or as an intra-company transferee ("L"
visa) to re-enter the United States until they have
accumulated two years' residence in Argentina after
returning from the United States on an exchange visitor
visa. This does not preclude the individuals from
going to the United States on other visas during this
two-year period.
