Cooperation Agreements

To increase the grant opportunities for U.S. and Argentine citizens and take full advantage of its operational resources both in Argentina and in the U.S., the Fulbright Program in Argentina created the Cooperation Agreements on the basis of shared funding and similar goals. Cooperation agreements have allowed the Fulbright Program to increase the number of grants to be offered annually.

The Fulbright Commission and its counterpart sign an agreement, which regulates their relationship. The agreement will include the number of grants to be offered, grant priority areas, candidates' selection process and criteria, each party's responsibilities, etc.

The Fulbright Commission will be responsible for obtaining tuition waiver at U.S. universities, for providing grantees with health insurance, and for university fees. The Commission will also advise the grantees and the sponsoring institution regarding the program's operation. Lastly, the Commission will be in charge of student orientation and will complete the grantees' follow-ups. The Commission's counterpart will be responsible for paying grantees' maintenance and roundtrip airfare.

Since 1994, the Commission has signed agreements with institutions of higher education, government agencies, and with private organizations. Through these agreements, it was possible to facilitate the training at U.S. universities of thousands of individuals studying within highly varied fields, from basic sciences to humanities and the arts.
