Assistant Awards |
Purpose
Grants offered by the Fulbright Commission and the
Argentine Ministry of Education to enable Argentine
teachers of English to work as Language Assistants
in universities or colleges in the United States.
Specific Eligibility Criteria
In addition to the general requirements, candidates
must show proof of:
- Argentine Citizenship
- English Teacher (Tertiary or University Degree)
- Submit Application form in English (two copies);
in Spanish (one original).
- Résumé and evidence of teaching
experience.
- GPA: 7 (seven)
- Academic / Professional Recommendation Letters
- Between 21 and 29 years old
- Teaching Experience
- Pass the IBT TOEFL (passing score is 79/80)
- Ability and interest in: establishing relationships
within the host community, and transmitting the
home culture, history, and traits
- The grantee will not be allowed to take her/his
family along during the grant
Benefits
Roundtrip airfare, living expenses, housing, health
insurance, and tuition for mandatory courses.
Duration
9 to 10 months beginning in August, every year.

Excellence and Achievement awards |
Overview
Scholarships for teachers of English from the Western
Hemisphere (including Argentina), Eurasia, South Asia
and Sub-Saharan Africa. The grantees will travel to
the United States to participate in a 6-week professional
development program at a U.S. university. The professional
development program will include coursework and intensive
training in teaching methodologies, lesson planning,
teaching strategies for the participants’ home
environment, educational leadership, as well as the
use of computers for Internet, word processing, and
as teaching tools. The 6-week program will include
a 2 to 3-week internship at a secondary school. Trips
to U.S. cultural sites and academic support will be
provided for participants throughout the program.
In April 2012 a cohort of 40 U.S. teachers will reciprocate
the visits of the international teachers. Each U.S.
teacher will be hosted by an alumni school in the
participating country where they will team-teach,
and discuss best teaching practices, curriculum, and
educational issues in the host country.
Eligible applicants must
be:
- Secondary-level, full-time teachers with five
or more years of classroom experience in English
as a Foreign Language after graduating
- Citizens of Argentina.
- Degree in Teaching of English from a University
or Instituto del Profesorado (minimum four- year
course work) .
- GPA 7 points or more
- English proficiency equivalent to 550 TOEFL.
- Excellent academic and professional background.
- Up to 45 years old
Benefits
The TEA fellowship is fully funded and provides:
• J-1 visa support;
• Round-trip airfare from participant’s
home city to and within the United States;
• A Welcome Orientation in Washington, D.C.;
• University training program;
• Accident and sickness coverage;
• Housing (generally shared with other program
participants) and meals;
• Transportation allowance for travel to school
internship (if necessary);
• Book allowance;
• An End of Program Conference hosted by one
of the TEA host universities in the U.S.;
• The opportunity to host a U.S. teacher for
two weeks; and • The opportunity to apply for
follow-on grants

Overview
The program brings highly accomplished primary and
secondary english teachers to the U.S. for a semester-long
program. International participants will be placed
at a U.S. host university with a respected School
of Education. The host university will provide a broad
range of resources in the teachers’ fields of
teaching expertise. In addition, participants may
enroll in graduate level classes, conduct research,
lead classes and seminars for U.S. teachers and students,
and engage in other teaching related activities. During
the program Distinguished Teachers will work toward
the completion of a capstone project of their own
design. Additionally, the teachers may team teach
and conduct occasional master classes as part of the
in-service training of teachers at local secondary
schools. Upon returning home, teachers will be expected
to share knowledge and experience gained on the program
with teachers and students in their home schools and
with their communities.
Eligible applicants must
be:
- Hold an undergraduate degree in English Teaching
from an accredited school in the home country
- Hold citizenship and be residents in Argentina;
- Be full time teachers;
- Have at least five years teaching experience;
- Demonstrate experience conducting and leading
professional development activities;
- Be up to 52 years old;
- Possess a paper based TOEFL score of 550 (213
Computer Based TOEFL, 79 Internet Based TOEFL) or
an IELTS score of 6.5; Applicants not holding any
of these tests can submit their applications and,
if selected, will be required to pass the official
IBT TOEFL at a later date.
- Candidates who have had a Fulbright grant before
cannot apply
Benefits
The DAT fellowship is fully funded and provides:
-Roundtrip airfare;
-Program costs: tuition, room and board, and transportation
are covered by the grant; participants will receive
a maintenance allowance designed to assist with the
costs of food and lodging during the U.S. program.
- Distinguished Teachers will also have the opportunity
to apply for professional enrichment funds to support
development, research, or cover expenses of attending
a conference or workshop related to their fields of
teaching expertise.
- J-1 exchange visa sponsored by the U.S.Government
- Dependents may accompany program participants; all
dependants’ expenses, however, will be paid
for by the grantee
- Health insurance (for emergencies only)

8. Certified university transcripts (1 copy for each
university attended)
9. TOEFL score (for applicants that have already passed
this test)
Please note that only preselected candidates will
be required to submit the “Sabbatical Leave
Authorization Form” and the“Administrador
Referral Form” that are part of the application
form.
