Regular Program

Purpose
To enable Argentine junior and senior researchers to conduct advanced research at universities and research institutions in the United States. Grants are awarded on the basis of academic and professional achievement and upon the soundness and relevance of the research proposal. Candidates must provide strong arguments as to why their projects should be conducted in the U.S.

General Requirements
In addition to the general requirements, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Submit a detailed proposal for a research project that will make a substantial contribution to the applicant's field of specialization.
  • Supply a letter of affiliation with a U.S. university or research center which shows interest and confirms collaboration with the applicant's research project.
  • submit evidence of English oral and written skills (a U.S. University degree, TOEFL or Institutional TOEFL score; for questions about other certificates, please contact the Commission).

Specific Eligibility Criteria

Senior Researchers

  • Hold a Ph.D. or provide evidence of professional distinction and scientific original or applied research achievements such as publications in competitive refereed journals.

Junior Researchers

  • Doctoral thesis in progress
  • A letter from the applicant’s doctoral advisor stating the applicant’s need for a research stay in the U.S.

Benefits
Round-trip international travel, monthly maintenance (variable according to the proposed city for the research project), and health insurance. Additionally, Visiting Scholars may participate in the Occasional Lecturer Program http://www.cies.org/sir/olp/

Duration
Three months.

Fulbright - CONICET Awards

Purpose
The Fulbright Commission and the National Research Council (CONICET) will award grants to researchers holding a CONICET grant for postdoctoral research stays at U.S. Universities or Research Centers.

Eligibility criteria
In addition to the general requirements, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants will be current holders of a CONICET grant in one of the following categories: Assistant or Adjunct Researchers, and they will have finished their doctoral studies at the moment of submitting their application.
  • Candidates who have lived in the U.S. for five years in the six years prior to submitting their applications are ineligible.

Benefits

  • US$ 3,000.
  • Health insurance, maintenance and roundtrip to the U.S., payable as follows: 50% of maintenance stipend and roundtrip expenses to be paid by Fulbright; the other 50% to be paid by CONICET.

Duration
Three months.

Twenty (20).

Selection Process
The Fulbright Commission will supervise the selection process. A Selection Committee composed by members of both institutions will evaluate all the applications and will then announce its final decisions.

Fulbright-Bunge y Born Foundation Doctoral Awards

Purpose
The Fulbright Program and the Bunge y Born Foundation will select young doctoral research candidates for three to six months’ stays at U.S. Universities or research centers. The selected candidates will be required to finish and submit their doctoral theses within a year after returning to their home countries and to apply and share their knowledge with the argentine scientific community with a view to promoting science in Argentina.

Recipients
Young qualified scholars from Argentina who have done substantial progress towards completing their doctoral theses.

Eligible fields
Although candidates from all disciplines may apply, the granting institutions will favor applications in the basic or experimental sciences.

Benefits
Roundtrip ticket (coach class), monthly maintenance and health insurance.

Period
Applicants may request research stays for periods of three to six months.

Application materials must be submitted by October 15, 2008.
