Higher Education
Most public and private universities offer undergraduate
and graduate programs. They grant academic and professional
degrees (Law, Engineering, Medicine). Most undergraduate
programs take at least 5 years to complete. In many
areas, students graduate as Licenciados,
for instance, Licenciado en Ciencia Política.
Teachers' Training Colleges and Technical Institutions
grant professional degrees.
Notes
Public education in Argentina is free. There
are no entrance exams. Students simply enroll in
the different undergraduate programs. At the University
of Buenos Aires (UBA), however, students must pass
a number of introductory courses before starting
with their programs.
Over the last few years, the private Argentine
system of higher education has experienced considerable
growth. Nowadays students have a wide variety of
options when choosing between public and private
institutions.
Several public and private universities also offer
graduate programs.
The grading scale is from 1 to 10. "Good"
GPAs vary considerably from to field to field. It is
highly recommended for admission committees in the U.S.
to consider the applicants' class rank.
